Barbet:French National Treasure

A standard is written to be respected and create dogs that look like each other morphologically. The breeder, when developping his or her line, adds his/her personal touch to the dog so that in the end, people can identify the dog as coming from such and such a kennel. The Progeny group at a show is there to reward breeders for having been able to breed and select and show dogs that not only look alike but look like what is said in the standard.The Barbet standard id one of the most complete and was used as a reference to write other standards..

The information you will read below is destined for judges of the breeds, and the terminology is very precise when describing a dog, whatever the breed is.

A judge is responsible for knowing this information and using it properly.

Non, nous ne faisons pas naître des barbets seulement pour faire plaisir aux gens

Si nos barbets plaisent aux gens dans le respect strict du standard, c'est notre fierté, mais ce n'est pas pour cette raison que nous en
poursuivons l'élevage. La vraie raison est de sauver le barbet dans son unité pour qu'il soit à coup sûr reconnu par tout le monde, partout
dans le monde sans le moindre doute sur son nom. Pour qu'il ne soit jamais confondu tantôt avec un bâtard de griffon, tantôt avec un
bâtard de briard, pour qu'il reste un chien harmonieux dans sa morphologie, pour que son poil reste frisé, pour que ses couleurs restent
celles admises par son standard, pour qu'un barbet ressemble à un autre barbet pendant des siècles et des siècles.
Si des gens ne veulent pas de ce barbet là, c'est leur droit, il existe suffisament de races de chiens pour qu'ils y trouvent celle qui fera leur
bonheur.
Le barbet ne doit pas changer pour se mettre au goût des gens, ce sont les gens qui doivent changer de
race pour adopter celle qui convient à leur goût

That is what she was elected for. Make sure the dog looks like what it is supposed to. Not anything else.
