Barbet:French National Treasure

Griffon Boulet: Standard FCI 174.

Griffons have existed since at least 500 years before JC.
Back then , there was no difference between a Griffon, a Spaniel and a Poodle...when Sélincourt noted that a Griffon hunted with the nose down to the ground...

In France, you could find the wooly coated Griffon on the west coast of France and in the North!

The Griffon Boulet was the first dog LOF at the SCC. In fact, the first 10 dogs inscribed at the SCC were Griffon Boulets.
He was "created" in Elbeuf, France by a Monsieur Boulet in the second half of the 19th century. It was then very popular.

The GB was similar in looks to the Griffon Barbet and the Griffon Korthals. Its only color was brown.
The breed is now completely extinct.

Marco was a very famous or the most famous Griffon Boulet.
He was born in 1879.
He is naturalized at the museaum in Elbeuf.

BUT, the is a lovely bronze statue at the SCC (in the President's office) as a reminder!
